Job Title: Bible Teacher -
Volunteer
Reports To: Director of Chaplains
The following statements are intended to
describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not
intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities,
duties and skills required of personnel so classified.
SUMMARY:
The Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities is seeking to change lives with the
Gospel. The Chaplain Department Volunteer Bible Teacher provides support to
Staff Chaplains who oversee spiritual care for all clients at the Mission in
the area of Bible instruction. In addition, the Chaplain Department
Volunteer Bible Teacher develops friendships, gains trust, and guides
at-risk individuals in making life changing decisions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitates systematic Bible instruction
in the rudiments of the Christian faith using both inductive and deductive
methodologies in a small group setting.

Able to make application from study to
real-life issues that clients face on a daily basis.

Provides spiritual care to residents
including prayer, pastoral counsel, and spiritual direction in the context
of their Bible classes.

When necessary, supports the evening
chapel program schedule, chaplain staffing, and adheres to department and
mission policies and procedures.

Fosters a co-operative work environment
with other Mission programs to ensure that program goals and objectives are
achieved.

Responsible for maintaining client
confidentiality in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy regulations.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
-
Demonstrated Christian maturity and
passion for ministry.

Active local church membership and
ministry involvement with instructional focus (i.e., Sunday School or other
teaching).

Be willing to participate in on-going
educational opportunities and certifications, i.e., CRP certification.

Must complete a background check with no
history of violence or sexual offenses.

Teach one, one-hour class each week in
the evenings when your class is running.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED:

Ability to teach using both inductive and
deductive methodologies including the art of application.

Strong interpersonal and communication
skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of
constituencies in a diverse community.

Ability to be self motivated and
demonstrate initiative.

Able to support the Union Gospel
Mission’s statement of Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge
with staff and clients.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL
EFFORT:
-
Work is normally performed in a typical
interior/office work environment.

No or very limited exposure to physical
risk.
